How do we analyze, explain, and interpret ideas about culture and/or religion through materials?
How do we know any particular interpretation holds merit when meaning changes over time?
For your Final Object Study you will be choosing an object of religious value and analyzing the material of said object. You will also draw upon your course readings and conduct research for peer-reviewed academic sources to explore and situate the object's themes and objectives (such as physical appearance, maker, patrons, purpose, circulation, social life, reception, etc).
This guide includes helpful resources for exploring material culture and religious literature.
