How to Print a Zine

Half-size zine already arranged for imposed printing:

  • Save your online zine as a PDF
  • Open PDF file and click Print
  • Select Print on both sides of paper. Flip on short edge
  • Select Landscape orientation
  • Print, fold in half and staple on the spine with a long-arm stapler or other form of binding

Turning single-page PDF into half-size zine (works best if pages are a multiple of 4):

  • Save your online zine as a PDF
  • Open PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and click Print
  • Select Booklet printing and Landscape orientation
  • Print, fold in half and staple on the spine with a long-arm stapler or other form of binding

If you have access to a print shop, you can contact them for available sizes and papers:

  • Common Sizes: Letter size (8.5 inches x 11 inches) and Half letter size (8.5 inches x 5.5 inches)
  • Page Setup & Count: Use single-page PDFs in a multiple of four (Ideal number: 24 or 32)
  • Bleeds: Set up a 0.125-inch bleed and ensure all graphic elements extend into the bleed area.
  • Page Margin: Set up a 0.25-inch page margin and ensure all text and content stay within the margin.
  • Color Mode: Always use CMYK color mode.
  • Exporting Files: Ensure bleeds are included when exporting the file.
