Zines (pronounced z-EE-ns) are independently published handmade booklets which are also often self-published, small press publications. Zines are shortened from the term fanzine or magazine, and come in many forms and sizes, and are made by hand, using a printer, photocopier or risograph machine. Zine creators are often motivated by a desire to share knowledge and experiences with people in marginalized, underrepresented and countercultural communities.
The zine library also hosts a monthly student-run Zine Club that meets once a month, where Reed students can gather to collage, learn new zine making techniques, learn zine fest organizing skills and find like-minded collaborators.
