Resources to support historical and current events research using newspapers, news media, and databases

Financial Times Online

What you need in order to activate or renew your account:

  • An active @reed.edu email address

Account renewal:

  • Your Financial Times access is tied to your Reed account, so it will expire when you graduate or leave Reed employment

Steps:

We have set up access to use the same login you use for other college resources.

  1. If you start from the library catalog or database A-Z list or if you enter our dedicated URL (ft.com/reed), you will be routed to Kerberos and prompted to enter your Reed College credentials.
  2. You will then "join" the campus subscription by setting up your account. The first step will be to receive a verification message via your Reed email account, and then FT will offer various options for if and how you receive communications from them.
  3. As a final step, you will see a welcome message.

You will not need to complete these steps again.

You may find the myFT tour page helpful in getting oriented.

If you are accessing FT on a public computer while away from campus, please remember to sign out.

All current Reed students, faculty, and staff have direct access to the Financial Times Online. Our campus access is equivalent to a “premium” subscription level and includes ft.com and the FT app, plus all video, newsletter, podcast, and data/visualization content. You may also be interested in special recurring columns, like Lex and Moral Money, or live events, like FT Live and Lunch with the FT.

FT Schools gathers content for educators and links to topic pages and explainers. The Schools Digest newsletter, curated by FT global education editor Andrew Jack, features student competitions, quizzes, and selected analysis. As part of our campus FT subscription, you can elect to receive it every Monday.

Setting Up Mobile App

Once you have the FT app installed, you need to connect it with the Reed subscription. When you are prompted to sign in, even though you don't have a password, enter your Reed email address -- you will then see a new button appear that says Sign in via Reed College. This will take you through the standard Reed authentication process and return you to the app.
