Resources to support historical and current events research using newspapers, news media, and databases

The Financial Times Online

What you need in order to activate or renew your account:

  • An active @reed.edu email address

Before you set up your Reed account:

  • If you already have a paid subscription using your Reed email address, you will need to cancel your paid subscription before setting up a connection with our campus group subscription

Steps:

  1. Go to ft.com/reed and select Sign In in the upper right corner.
  2. This should open a page with a button labeled Set Up Your Account.
  3. On the next screen, enter your Reed email address.
  4. The site will redirect you to the standard Reed login (Kerberos) where you will authenticate with the same credentials you use for other Reed resources, like your email.
  5. You will then move through a series of customization steps, such as choosing your role on campus, setting contact preferences, and opting in to newsletters etc. (To adjust any of these settings, once you are logged in, select My Account in the upper right and look at the Contact Preferences box and/or the Manage Your Content and Interest section.)
  6. You will then see an activation confirmation. On all future visits to ft.com, once you enter your Reed email address on the sign-in page, the site will route you to the Kerberos login.

If you access The Financial Times Online on a public computer, please remember to sign out!

Problems getting registered? Submit an Article/databases/ebook access problem report in the form on our Ask a Librarian page. That will open a support ticket directly with our e-resources team.

What's Included

All current Reed students, faculty, and staff have direct access to the Financial Times Online. Our campus access is equivalent to a “premium” subscription level and includes ft.com and the FT app, plus all video, newsletter, podcast, and data/visualization content. You may also be interested in special recurring columns, like Lex and Moral Money, or live events, like FT Live and Lunch with the FT.

For Faculty

FT Schools gathers content for educators and links to topic pages and explainers. The Schools Digest newsletter, curated by FT global education editor Andrew Jack, features student competitions, quizzes, and selected analysis. As part of our campus FT subscription, you can elect to receive it every Monday.

Setting Up Mobile App

Once you have the FT app installed, you need to connect it with the Reed subscription. When you are prompted to sign in, even though you don't have a password, enter your Reed email address -- you will then see a new button appear that says Sign in via Reed College. This will take you through the standard Reed authentication process and return you to the app.
